November PLCs and Library Wins: Building Momentum
The beginning of November marked the start of the 3rd Six Weeks, bringing with it our district’s purposeful planning day. Librarians are included in this, and it provides a chance for us to meet for PLCs, collaborate, and learn—a lifeline as we continue navigating the challenges of serving two campuses.
The October PLC was exactly the boost I needed to jumpstart my library programming. Up until then, I had focused on promoting books and collaborating with teachers but hesitated to branch out into broader programming. Enter the amazing Melissa Silero and Shannon Whiteley, who presented on secondary library engagement. Their insights were invaluable!
At Houston, I’d already begun an extensive weeding process, and I’m formulating a plan to tackle Crockett’s collection in waves. But the real game-changer? I drew inspiration from Andrea Keller for a Día de Muertos activity. It was simple to implement—just a few flyers and an announcement on the student broadcast—and the response was incredible. Students flocked to the library, and many left asking, “When’s the next event?”
Speaking of the next event, I’m already planning for December! We’ll be hosting Festive Lotería, complete with hot chocolate or another sweet treat. I can’t wait to see how this one turns out!
